Impressions from the intercultural exchange of youth in Trogen
In the period 19 September to 5 October 2023, young secondary school students from the municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac, and Medveđa participated in an intercultural exchange in the Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Trogen. This exchange was held as part of the project “Our city, our schools” implemented by the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa in cooperation with Group 484 with the support of the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation from Switzerland.
Thirty-nine young people from Sezai Surroi Secondary School and Sveti Sava Vocational Secondary School from Bujanovac, Preševo Secondary Technical School, Preševo Skenderbeu General Secondary School and Nikola Tesla Technical School from Medveđa lived, enjoyed, studied, and socialised two weeks together.
Youth attended creative and educational workshops every day, and some of the topics covered were: the concept of identity, intercultural communication and diversity in culture, cooperation and solidarity, prejudice and discrimination, ecology and human impact on global warming. They also had the opportunity to create and hold a radio show during which they talked about all these topics, which was broadcast on radio stations in Switzerland and Serbia.
During breaks from work and study, the group from Serbia also visited cities such as St. Gallen, Lucerne, and Zurich, paid a visit to the Technorama science park in Winterthur and the largest waterfalls in Europe – the Rhine Falls. The adventurers from Serbia also successfully climbed one of the Alpine peaks – Hoher Kasten.
Intercultural exchange of students from socially disadvantaged families was supported by the Albanian National Council, the Coalition for Solidarity Economy Development, and the Business Info Group, whom we would like to thank for their support.
