WORKSHOP: “IRREGULAR MIGRATION: UNDERSTANDING THE PHENOMENON OF MIGRANT SMUGGLING AND RELATED CRIMINAL ACTS”
On 26 and 27 November 2020, we held workshops through the Zoom platform dedicated to understanding the phenomenon of migrant smuggling. The Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office also provided active support for the realisation of the workshops with its lecturers.
Discussions during the workshops were led by:
· Dragan Timotijević, an expert in the field of combating migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings,
· Marko Milićević, Advisor to the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office
· Miroslava Jelačić Kojić, Project Manager, Group 484
The workshops were organised with the aim of improving the understanding of the challenges and characteristics of irregular migration in the Western Balkans, and particularly in the Republic of Serbia, criminal and legal aspects of criminal acts of illegal crossing of the state border and human trafficking, as well as their distinction from other related crimes.
The workshops were attended by 40 representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, centres for social work and civil society organisations whose field of work relates to the work with migrants and asylum seekers, as well as to the protection of victims of trafficking.
The support during the realisation of the workshops was provided by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway, within the project “Support to migrant and local communities in Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia”.
