Marking the World Refugee Day |
|
|
On Saturday, June 20, 2009, Group 484 organised a sports day for about 150 refugee, IDP and returnee children from Belgrade, joined by their peers from Zvezdara. Football and basketball tournament, games without frontiers, school for clowns, drawing and puzzle competitions pleased the children who enjoyed in socialising and sports activities.
A part of the public picture about forced migrants (refugees, IDPs, returnees under readmission agreements and other vulnerable population) is poor living conditions, lower educational level, hopeless situation they are in. However, all the vulnerable are at the same time potential strength of the society and if it perceives and accepts them in the right way, chances for improvement and development of the society itself are larger.
Therefore, we believe that marking the World refugee day in the spirit of sport, children’s joy and the upcoming Universidad is the right way to present the youth who are part of our society and future.
We would like to thank Olimp Sports Centre – Zvezdara for providing us with the space for realisation of the sports day, as well as City Transport Company for transportation and UniCredit Bank for presents for children.
